Oven Mate

Oven Mate Gel Oven Cleaner is definitely my 'New Best Friend'.
There's no doubt that for most of us, cleaning the oven and grill pan is the worst chore in the kitchen and most oven cleaners don't measure up to the task and often have a really acrid smell and choking vapour.  Not Oven Mate, this is definitely the exception.

This product is recommended by Neff, which speaks for itself!

Oven Mate Gel removes stubborn baked on grease and oil.  Simply apply Oven Mate with the supplied brush.  Oven Mate Gel saves hours of hard work - no scrubbing.  Oven Mate rinses off easily.  This is a powerful, biodegradable oven cleaner that leaves your oven looking like new, it even removes the most stubborn baked on fat and oil.

No Need for Elbow Grease - it's a doddle!

The best part of all is that Oven Mate has no acrid smell and you don't need to scrub.

FREE: Inside the box containing your chunky 500ml bottle of Oven Mate is a brush to apply the product plus a pair of protective gloves.

Visit my website and get your Oven Mate today!

Soap Nuts

These amazing little shells of the soap nut tree contain soap or saponin which we can use to clean our clothes with. They are economical, chemical free and protect your clothes from bacteria and fungus and whats more when you have finished washing your clothes with them you just pop them in your compost bin.

So how do you use them?

Pop a few shells in a wash bag or sock and then put them in the drum of your washing machine with your clothes and wash as normal. When the soap nuts come into contact with water they release saponin and this acts like a detergent to aid the water in freeing dirt, grime and oils from our clothes.

They are highly recommended for people who have skin allergies or sensitive skin as they are 100% natural and free of chemicals. Some people have seen their eczema and psoriasis clear up as a result of using soap nuts.

To make Liquid Soap

Simmer about half a dozen soap nuts for five minutes. The amount of water you use doesn’t really matter. Simply use enough water to cover the shells. If you use nut shells that haven’t been used before you will end up with a fairly “strong” solution. You can dilute the liquid accordingly afterwards. Cool and strain. Alternatively, pour boiling water over shells and leave to cool. Procedure can be repeated several times before shells are disposed of on compost heap.

Liquid Soap can be used for -

Washing delicate items by hand and for washing hands.
Washing dishes (particularly good for glassware).
Use in place of conventional screen wash in your car! (Dilute with cold water 1:4).
Add a few drops of essential oil for an effective spray-on general surface cleaner.
Add a little white vinegar for a super-effective window/glass cleaner.
Add to a spray bottle and attack greenfly and aphids!
They are excellent for hand washing clothes.

I would suggest that you swish half a dozen soap nuts round in some warm water for a while, then remove them and use the soapy water that's left.

This prevents any bits of nuts getting in the clothes. If you decide to use them in a washing machine, always keep the nuts in a sock or something similar.

The saponin in the nuts is really good stuff and it can be used in a spray/ bottle for general cleaning purposes too.

Its especially good for coloured fabrics as the colours stay true and bright.

Hope you like them - I sell quite a few from my site.

Paraben and SLS Free Products

The new Wikaniko Luxury Skin Care range has been made from the best natural products and is totally free of colourings, parabens and SLS.

What does this mean for you?
What are parabens?
What is SLS?
Why should we aim to buy products that are free from these ingredients?

What does this mean for you?
This means that you have access to a range of products that are completely safe to use and free from any nasties. Amazingly these products are also competitively priced so are available to the majority of people. Check out the range now to see what is available.

What are parabens?

Parabens are a group of widely used preservatives added to food and cosmetics, and an extremely common ingredient in underarm deodorants, anti-perspirants, cosmetics, face cream, shampoo and toothpaste. An estimated 90% of cosmetic products contain parabens. Parabens are included in many consumer items, but high levels of exposure to parabens can result from repeated use of products that contain them, especially deodorants and anti-perspirants. These products have been linked to breast cancer because they are applied close to the breast, where they could potentially adhere to DNA and encourage the development of damaged cells.

What is SLS?

SLS or Sodium Lauryl Sulphate and SLES or Sodium Laureth Sulphate are chemical agents that are used as a degreaser for car engines, and are also active ingredients in car washes. They cause the products in which they are used to 'foam up' and lather, and dissolves grease and oil. They are also used in toothpaste, shampoo, bubble baths, soaps, and many detergents.

The problem with SLS and SLES is they can cause scalp and skin irritations, dried out skin, irritated eyes, swelling of the face, hands and arms and can dry out and damage hair follicles. The reason SLS is placed in these products is that it is cheap and effective at doing what it is supposed to do and people don't pay enough attention to what goes into their hair and onto their faces.

SLS and SLES may not be a problem in small doses, however we are exposed to these chemicals many times a day. This exposure begins when we brush our teeth and use mouthwash, then when we shower in the form of shower gels, soaps, shampoos, then face creams and body lotions. Even the clothes we wear contain these chemicals so we are keeping them close to our skin all day.

Why should we aim to buy products that are free from these ingredients?

Provided it is clinically proven that parabens pose a threat to our health then why are they still used by skin care companies? The answer is simple – being cheap preservatives, these substances lengthen the shelf life of products, longer shelf life leads to higher possibility of the products being purchased thus leading to higher sales for the company! Are you prepared to be consuming a product that studies have suggested cause cancer? Or would you prefer to use products that you know are paraben free and therefore safer to use and healthier? The choice is yours. For a wide range of luxury products that are paraben and SLS free then visit my shop
